Talent, Luck, and Other Fallacies

Watch any music or artistic reality show and you will see there is a lot of talent out there. Especially good singers. They are a freaking dime a dozen these days. In fact if I had a dime every person, family friend, or client told me they could sing or knew someone who could sing, I’d be rich (in dimes).

The truth is when people tell me that they or someone they know has talent I smile and say, “Well, that’s great.” However I know full well the odds they will actually do something with whatever talent they have are very small. Why? Most people won’t work at what they want to be good at.
